While there are several ways to remove an IOL, Loh’s preferred method has four steps: separating the anterior capsule from the IOL, freeing the IOL from the capsular bag and ensuring the haptics are movable, inserting the new IOL in the bag under the original IOL, and cutting and removing the old IOL.

LOS ANGELES — At the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery meeting, Jennifer M. Loh, MD, discussed 24-month data investigating TearCare, a localized heat therapy treatment for dry eye disease, compared with Restasis. Stage 1 of the SAHARA trial found that outcomes in patients randomly assigned to treatment with TearCare (Sight Sciences) were superior in terms of tear breakup time and meibomian gland secretion scores vs. Restasis (cyclosporine ophthalmic emulsion 0.05%, AbbVie).
