The meeting came at an uncertain moment for Ukraine as it faces President-elect Donald Trump's push for an accelerated timetable for peace negotiations with Moscow.

You could hardly find anyone anywhere in the world who isn't either contemptuous of the United States of America or furious at it. This anger or hatred isn't directed at the United States itself nor at its people. People hate the policies it has adopted for addressing countless crises and problems around the globe, and more specifically, especially the brutal Israeli war on Palestinians in Gaza, as well as its war on Lebanon.

KYIV, Ukraine — The European Union’s top official said on a trip to Kyiv on Friday that Europe would offer Ukraine a loan of 35 billion euros (about $39 billion) backed by frozen Russian assets. European leaders said the loan would move forward initially without contributions from the United States, after talks between US and European officials stalled in recent days.

An antiship ballistic missile fired by Houthi fighters struck a US-owned cargo vessel off Yemen on Monday, but the ship and its crew were not seriously harmed, according to the US military’s Central Command. The attack was the latest in the Red Sea and nearby waters by the Iranian-backed militia, which has claimed it is acting in response to the Israeli military response in the Gaza Strip.
