A local woman has filed a lawsuit against Marion Senior Services, saying she sustained “permanent injuries” after she allegedly tripped on an uneven sidewalk at the nonprofit organization’s facility in Ocala. Attorneys filed the lawsuit on behalf of Jacqueline King in the Fifth Judicial Circuit Court of Marion County on May 9. According to the complaint, King, who is from Marion County, was visiting Marion Senior Services at 1101 SW 20th Court in Ocala on October 17, 2024.

The Marion County school district has released its final expulsion tally, with area schools seeing a total of approximately 221 students expelled over the 180-day school year. The final student discipline report will be presented to the Marion County School Board during its regular meeting on Tuesday, June 24. According to the report, during the 2024-2025 school year, which ended on May 29, there was a total of 445 alternative placements resulting in 221 expulsions.

Armstrong Land, LLC’s master plan for Whisper Woods was approved by the Marion County Board of County Commissioners on Tuesday, June 17.

A company that manufactures and develops pharmaceutical drugs announced that it will close its plant in Alachua County and lay off an additional 76 employees, just months after terminating over 100 employees in what was originally described as a “mass layoff.” Resilience announced that it will close its plant at 13200 NW Nano Court in Alachua in a Federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filing with the Florida Department of Commerce.

A husband and wife who moved to Ocala to be closer to their family are opening a new soap and bath franchise in the city this week, offering bar soaps, face scrubs, bath bombs, and similar products. Magnolia Soap and Bath Co. will celebrate its grand opening at 2701 SW College Rd, Suite 604-A, on Friday, June 20. The new business is situated in Gaitway Plaza, in the former location of Jenny Craig.
