    Council leaders have announced they have identified three preferred options for creating new unitary councils across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. The announcement has been made in response to a national government requirement to replace the current district, county and city councils with simpler unitary councils, instead of two tiers of local government.

    Businesses across Fenland have been awarded grants totalling more than £1million to create jobs and grow – and more funds are now available. A total of 79 awards were made, and it is estimated they have supported the creation of 125 jobs. Now, additional funding has been awarded to Fenland to enable further business support grant awards, and firms are being encouraged to bid for them. The deadline for ‘expressions of interest’ is Monday, July 14.

    Police stopped a motorcyclist delivery rider for having a suspected stolen bike and ended up reporting him for not having business insurance. Officers stopped the bike in Kings Delph, Whittlesey, on Monday, as it had been reported as stolen last month. The rider was able to prove it hadn’t been stolen, but failed to provide evidence that they were insured for business use. This motorbike was being used without business insuranceThe bike was seized and the driver was reported for the offence.

    Our reviewer broke tradition on a recent trip to the coast and didn’t have fish and chips on The Green…I was born on the Norfolk coast, and more often than not, I return when I get a free day at the weekend. And like many, my wife and I have our virtually unspoken traditions when we go there. At Wells we walk up and down the beach road and then visit the chippie and eat our food on the wall opposite the shop.
