Earlier this week (Monday) we finally had a good soaking rain over the region after weeks of very little rainfall. Today will be the next round, but today there will be some heavy rain and thunderstorms as well. Today we have a weak are of low pressure moving east along a stationary front. It is dragging a cold front behind it as it moves east. There is some warm, humid, and unstable air south of the stationary front. However, this probably won’t move much more to the north today.

Over the last 2 days we had some cool/cold air. It was enough that the bay temperature actually dropped from the low 60s to the upper 50s. Our high temps made it into the 50s Thursday afternoon, but it was in the low 50s for a lot of the metro. As expected it was nice in the sun out of the breeze, but chilly in the shade when the breeze blew. Today we’ll warm things up a bit. High temps will be more in the 60s. We’ll have increasing clouds with a southeast breeze.

This morning was chilly, but it was downright cold (for mid-April) in some of our inland locations. There were a couple of upper 20s in Wakefield and Tappahannock. It was in the low 30s in Chesapeake. Colder air has poured into the region after a pretty warm 2 weeks. Yesterday high temps were only in the 50s. We’ll have another cool day today. High temps will be in the mid-upper 50s. It will be a little cooler near the shore and a little milder inland.

Yesterday we got the rain that we had called for. It was great! It was like a car wash for a little while, but it was worth it. Rain picked up over the region during the afternoon along the first cold front. Then the heavy rain shifted down to North Carolina in the evening. This was a great soaking rain that the area needed. The rain continued into the overnight, and there were even a few spotty showers this morning. As expected, we picked up about 1.5 to 2″ of rainfall. Norfolk picked up about 1.60″.

We have a stationary front over the region this morning. It will move north a bit today then south. Rain will increase today with some t'storms this afternoon. Very tricky temps. Staying cool north. Warm south. Temps rise then fall. We're all cooler tomorrow. https://t.co/mJmr8pvcAm

We'll have a few showers this morning, but they should be isolated for most of the day. Warm, humid, & breezy with highs in the low 80s. Then tonight scattered storms move in. Some strong to severe. https://t.co/kuTD45UE7h

We'll have decreasing rain showers today as a cold front pushes offshore. Watch for some standing water as you head out. High temps will be in the low 60s with a breeze out of the north. Sunshine returns tomorrow. https://t.co/KXsSEJOeEy
