NEW YORK -- Hits haven't come easy for Juan Soto during his first season with the New York Mets. The $765 million slugger lost one Tuesday night against the Chicago White Sox because of some chaos on the basepaths. With teammate Brandon Nimmo on first in the opening inning, Soto sent a drive toward right-center, where a diving Michael A. Taylor trapped the ball in his glove off a short bounce. Hearing disappointment from Citi Field fans, however, Nimmo thought the ball had been caught on a fly.

CHICAGO -- The Cubs will be without the services of catcher Miguel Amaya for the next 4-6 weeks as he recovers from a left oblique strain, according to manager Craig Counsell. Amaya, 26, left Saturday's game against the Cincinnati Reds in the fifth inning and immediately went on the injured list. He'll be lost until mid-July after imaging on the area showed the strain. "He was in pretty good pain when he left the game," Counsell said before Tuesday's contest against the Colorado Rockies.

CLEVELAND -- Shohei Ohtani became the third player in franchise history to reach 20 homers in the team's first 55 games with a two-run drive during the fourth inning Tuesday night as his Los Angeles Dodgers took on the Cleveland Guardians. The Japanese star joined Gil Hodges (21 in 1951) and Cody Bellinger (20 in 2019) as Dodgers with at least 20 homers in the first 55 games. It is the 64th time a player in the majors did it in the same span, the first since the New York Mets' Pete Alonso in 2023.

NEW YORK -- Third baseman Mark Vientos was scratched from the New York Mets' lineup Friday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers because of abdominal soreness, and left fielder Brandon Nimmo exited the game with a stiff neck. Nimmo said his neck tightened up Friday morning, but he tried to play anyway. He banged into the outfield wall with his right shoulder while catching Will Smith's long drive leading off the second inning, then struck out looking in the bottom half.

Saw the vote live last night and again this morning in Rome but left before they gave it to the Chicago guy! Argh.

Pete Crow-Armstrong has 9 home runs this season, all since April 13th -- the most in MLB during that timeframe. He's hitting .354 during that stretch.
