Early fog was quite dense in areas of central Nebraska so far this morning. Below is a look at the visibility across the state before 6 a.m. Friday, with improvements expected as clearing begins shortly after sunrise. Early showers/isolated storms this morning will for the most part clear out around sunrise for a lot of us, too. A better chance for some of that rain to continue south of Lincoln toward Beatrice into the early afternoon.

More smoke from Canadian wildfires is anticipated to influence the air quality Thursday and Friday. An air quality alert has been issued for most of Thursday through noon Friday (June 5-6, 2025). The air quality early Thursday (as of 6 a.m. this morning) was acceptable: most of eastern Nebraska within the “Moderate” category. Sensitive groups like those with heart or lung disease, older adults are advised to reduce prolonged or heavy exertion and avoid intense outdoor activities.

Wind and heavy rain were the main hazards across areas of central Nebraska Monday night. Wind gusts over 60 mph were reported to have done damage to trees in Kearney while power poles were downed in Kennesaw, Nebraska. Some 3 to almost 3.5″ of rain fell especially around Cozad, with reports of flooding there and up toward Taylor.

The very warm, hazy weekend will be capped off with an even hotter day this Monday. Afternoon temperatures will be warming to the lower 90s as southerly winds increase. Little more humidity will be noticeable but also tolerable today for little to no difference in any sort of heat index. A cold front will make a journey through Nebraska this Monday so that by the early evening, storms will start to form along it in central Nebraska.
