Before March 1996, it was quite surprising that a city as large as Lincoln, Nebraska, had just one local commercial TV station. This changed in the spring of 1996 when Channel 8 KLKN-TV began broadcasting, bringing an ABC affiliate to Lincoln. Tony Pierce, 50, appeared in Lancaster County Court for his preliminary hearing, where the judge ruled that there is enough evidence to bring the case to trial. LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Lincoln Fire & Rescue crews responded to Bryan East Medical Center on Wednesday night. It happened about 7 p.m.A Channel 8 reporter saw multiple LFR vehicles outside of the surgery center near 52nd and A streets. Firefighters were using a latter truck to get on the roof. Battalion Chief Aaron Pospisil said a boiler overheated and set off some sprinklers. There was some light haze but no fire, he said. LFR said Bryan will have water damage and a maintenance problem to address.
Man arrested after shooting woman in south Lincoln, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A man was arrested after a shooting late Tuesday night in south Lincoln, police say. Around 10 p.m., officers were sent to a neighborhood near 40th Street and Old Cheney Road on the report of a shooting. Officers arrived and found a 42-year-old woman with a gunshot wound, according to LPD. She was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. The front door had “numerous” bullet holes, and officers found bullet casings in the street.
Meth case stemming from Lincoln traffic stop takes step forward

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A methamphetamine case that started with a north Lincoln traffic stop moved forward on Tuesday. Dakota Parrott, 32, of Nebraska City waived his preliminary hearing in Lancaster County Court. Judge Timothy Phillips then bound the case over to district court. On March 24, Parrott was pulled over near 27th and Fairfield streets. He appeared nervous, sweating and “messing with his hands constantly,” court documents say.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A teenager pleaded not guilty Tuesday to repeatedly breaking into a Lincoln vape shop. Sirquan Wynn, 18, waived his preliminary hearing, and a judge forwarded the case to district court. Police said Wynn and a 16-year-old boy broke into Lincoln Vapor near 27th Street and Cornhusker four times late last year. LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A case against a Lincoln man accused of molesting a 12-year-old girl has taken a step forward. On Tuesday, 40-year-old Hugo Zepeda waived his preliminary hearing in Lancaster County Court, and a judge sent the case to district court. The case began early on Christmas morning, when police responded to a home in the North Bottoms neighborhood. Court documents say Zepeda was laying on a bed next to the girl and started touching her inappropriately.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Nebraska Legislature gave first-round approval Tuesday to a bill dealing with gender in sports and schools. Lawmakers voted 33-16 to advance Legislative Bill 89, which is called the Stand With Women Act. LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Firefighters extinguished a kitchen fire Tuesday night at a southwest Lincoln town house. The fire was reported about 8:15 p.m. near Southwest Eighth Street and West Old Cheney Road. Lincoln Fire & Rescue crews put out the flames within about five minutes of their arrival, according to Battalion Chief Eddie Mueller. LFR said it was a cooking fire and was contained to the cabinet area of the kitchen. The blaze caused an estimated $15,000 in damage.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Police are investigating after shots were fired in a south Lincoln neighborhood Tuesday night. About 10:30 p.m., several law enforcement vehicles lined 38th Street near Briarwood Avenue, just northwest of 40th Street and Old Cheney Road. A Channel 8 reporter saw crime scene tape blocking off the street in front of a duplex. Multiple evidence markers were lying in the street, and officers searched the area with flashlights.
