A report has recommended Australia's wine grape purchasing code of conduct be made mandatory to protect growers from misconduct and unfair pricing behaviour. Growers are calling on the federal government to implement the code immediately to halt a mass exodus of farmers from the industry. The recommendation to implement a code still needs to be legislated by government.

A flower producer says she is adapting to consumer choices when selecting which blooms to grow. Harvest of wine grapes has already begun in most of South Australia's key wine regions, making it one of the earliest vintages for the industry. A record dry year, major frost damage and heat have contributed to crops being ready up to a month earlier than usual. While many regions are expecting lower yields than usual, winemakers are reporting good quality grapes that should make for excellent wines from this vintage.
