    Emporia is celebrating Pride and you are invited to join the celebration. This year, the Pride Celebration will begin in downtown Emporia on June 21 at 4 p.m. Plan for an enthusiastic parade, live music, vendors and a drag show. Mallory Bishop, a planning committee member, says the parade theme is Pink Pony Club, and registrations for parade entries are already coming in. The parade will begin at 4 p.m. at ESU and move south on Commercial St. to 8th Ave., turning right on 8th St. to conclude.

    As court proceedings move forward for six people arrested in Emporia for involvement in a drug smuggling operation, one defendant has had charges dropped while another has been released from detention to attend drug rehab. In early May, the following six individuals were each charged with one count of possession with the intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine, following an extensive investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies.

    Two locals have been arrested for crimes associated with a burglary in Chase County. According to the criminal complaints filed in the District Court of Chase County, Jeremy James Cox and Margaret Danielle Fankhauser were arrested this month, though the alleged offenses occurred between April 22 and May 8.

    The Special Olympics torch run made its way through Emporia on Wednesday and Thursday with support from local law enforcement. Law enforcement officers from the Emporia Police Department, Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and the Emporia State University Police Department participated in the 2025 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Kansas.

    The Kansas economy received a healthy sign with the release of May total tax collection amounts. During May, the State collected $657.7 million, which is $158.3 million over the estimate. Total tax collections were only down slightly, at .2 percent from the same time last year. “Surpassing estimates this month is a positive indicator, but we remain diligent and focused on maintaining long-term financial health,” Governor Laura Kelly said.
