Tesla sales have rebounded in Australia thanks to strong demand for the heavily updated Model Y SUV. The midsized electric SUV registered its best sales month for nearly a year with 3580 units shifted in May. It was the updated ‘Juniper’ model’s first full month in showrooms. It marked a 123 per cent increase on the 1609 Model Ys sold in May 2024, and reduces the year-to-date decrease from 58 percent at the end of April to 27% at the end of May.

BYD Australia has assumed its full official set-up in Australia, with original importer EV Direct confirming expectations that it would hand over national distribution of popular models such as the Shark 6 plug-in ute and Atto 3 compact electric SUV. EV Direct announced today that the distributorship transfer was set for July, claiming the move was “a year ahead of schedule”.

The 2026 Toyota RAV4 will target keener drivers next year with a new GR Sport flagship that combines a 227kW plug-in hybrid drivetrain and an upgraded chassis over regular versions of the popular midsized SUV. Toyota’s next-generation RAV4 will offer more from the GR Sport badge that up to now have typically represented sporty styling only.

The sixth-generation Toyota RAV4 will debut the brand’s first plug-in hybrid powertrain in Australia in the first half of 2026. Toyota confirmed the PHEV as part of the global unveiling of the latest RAV4, one of the world’s biggest nameplates that has sold more than half a million units in Australia alone since 1994. PHEVs target 100km EV rangePlug-in versions combine a 22.7kWh lithium-ion battery with a 150kW front electric motor and 2.5-litre petrol engine.
