Skoda Australia is chasing police forces with its new Superb sedan and wagon, as well as a mini revival of the dying large-car segment. The fourth-generation Superb arrives as one of just three large cars offered below $70,000 RRP, joining the entry-level Lexus ES (from $65,540) and single-spec Honda Accord (from $64,900). Skoda’s entrant is the only non-hybrid, powered by a 195kW 2.0-litre turbo petrol related to the engine used in the VW Golf GTI and Skoda Octavia RS.

The 2026 Audi Q3 will take the fight to the BMW X1 and other luxury compact SUVs with new technology that includes micro-LED exterior lighting and a parking system that can be taught different manoeuvres. Audi has revealed its third-generation Q3 overnight, ahead of the model’s European launch in September and its later arrival in Australia sometime in 2026. The Q3 was Audi’s biggest-selling vehicle locally in 2024, where it played second to the bigger Q5 in worldwide sales.

Audi is aiming to give its Q6 E-Tron electric SUV a sales boost with a new entry-level variant that dealers are pricing below the luxury car tax threshold. The new base grade simply called Q6 is priced officially from $99,900 before on-road costs, though the model is being sold for about $90,000 according to a dealer order document seen by Chasing Cars.

Tesla sales have rebounded in Australia thanks to strong demand for the heavily updated Model Y SUV. The midsized electric SUV registered its best sales month for nearly a year with 3580 units shifted in May. It was the updated ‘Juniper’ model’s first full month in showrooms. It marked a 123 per cent increase on the 1609 Model Ys sold in May 2024, and reduces the year-to-date decrease from 58 percent at the end of April to 27% at the end of May.

BYD Australia has assumed its full official set-up in Australia, with original importer EV Direct confirming expectations that it would hand over national distribution of popular models such as the Shark 6 plug-in ute and Atto 3 compact electric SUV. EV Direct announced today that the distributorship transfer was set for July, claiming the move was “a year ahead of schedule”.
