1. IntroductionLandslides such as avalanches, debris flows, mud flows, glacier calving, and rockfalls are common in mountainous regions. When these masses intrude the surrounded bodies of water such as mountain lakes, reservoirs, rivers, and oceans, they can generate large impulse waves (also called landslide-generated waves or landslide tsunamis) that can have devastating effects. The problem of landslide-generated waves has attracted considerable attention in recent decades.
