    Coronado basketball standout Mason Abittan has reopened his recruitment after signing with UNLV basketball in November, and five Rebels have officially entered the transfer portal. All of these decisions were announced before UNLV hired coach Josh Pastner this week to replace the fired Kevin Kruger. Abittan averaged 19.3 points per game at Coronado this season, earning first-team All-Southern Nevada honors.

    Veteran MLB slugger Joey Gallo, a former Bishop Gorman standout, indicated he will try to switch positions and become a pitcher after being released by the Chicago White Sox on Sunday. The first baseman/outfielder was in camp on a minor league contract and had struggled in nine Cactus League games. The two-time All-Star and two-time Gold Glove winner went 2-for-20 with Chicago in spring training, striking out 11 times.

The conferences filed a motion to stay their case in California while they explore a resolution, the report said.

    Fresno State basketball player Zaon Collins, a former Bishop Gorman standout, remains on the Bulldogs’ roster amid a sports betting investigation, though a second player has been kicked off the team, The Fresno Bee reported. According to an ESPN report, while the other players participated in daily fantasy sports contests involving their player props, Collins is under investigation for betting on professional sports. Guard Jalen Weaver is no longer with the team, according to the report.

    Fresno State basketball player Zaon Collins, a former Bishop Gorman standout and UNLV commit, was held out of Saturday’s game against Air Force because of “an eligibility matter,” the university said. A report in The Fresno Bee cited sources saying the benching “could be tied to an internal investigation into alleged betting activity.”Fresno State guard Jalen Weaver was also held out of Saturday’s game for the same reason, the report said.

In the end, I’m still a Cowboys fan. I hope the Eagles lose on a pass interference call in the end zone on a Hail Mary, and sit back and enjoy the discourse
