Washington Capitals superstar sniper Alex Ovechkin recently scored his 895th career NHL goal, breaking a record previously held by Wayne Gretzky, a record many thought was unbreakable. Playing for Washington, an Eastern Conference team, his entire career, Ovechkin only plays the Predators, a Western Conference team, only once or twice per season. From his entrance into the NHL in 2005, Ovechkin has played against the Predators 29 times, scoring 19 of his record number goals against Nashville.

Not initially forecast to be a regular at the NHL level this season, underperformance and injuries of other forwards prompted Svechkov’s recall from the Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL, and he stuck with the Predators for more than half the season.
