The Hope Florida scandal appears to be heading to Washington, D.C., after Sen. Rick Scott said that one of President Donald Trump’s latest judicial picks will have to answer questions about the Medicaid settlement at the center of the scandal. Speaking to reporters at an event in Pensacola on May 29, Scott said he supports all of Trump’s nominations, but Florida Chief Deputy Attorney General John Guard will have to answer questions about his involvement with the Hope Florida settlement.

The battle over Hope Florida, a project spearheaded by Florida first lady Casey DeSantis, kicked into a new gear with news that a criminal investigation may have been opened into a $10 million "donation" from a Medicaid settlement that was then sent to a political committee to fight a constitutional amendment that her husband, Gov. State Attorney Jack Campbell is said to be investigating a $10 million Medicaid settlement payment to a charity linked to Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis. Gov. DeSantis continues to deny any wrongdoing and defends the Hope Florida program, calling the investigation politically motivated. Campbell previously stated he was not investigating the payment.
