At some point in my morning routine, I browse the Los Angeles Times. When I freelanced for the Times as a sports cartoonist I considered that a career highlight. As early as I can remember reading, I would read the LA Times. It was a matter of habit. A habit I’m about to break. Yesterday, I saw and reluctantly read another political opinion column penned by a sportswriter.

Last night I got a two-page email from a close relative. His political stripes are just left of Lenin. His thought process is based on whatever gaslighting leftist conspiracy theory he’s picked up off social media. If you assume that this article will burn that familial bridge, it won’t. He burned that bridge last night. I was excoriated for things I never did. Things I never said. He added “f**k you Republican!!!!” I’m not a registered Republican, by the way, and I don't discuss politics with him.

With society seemingly collapsing, with a senator play-acting, with so much angst, I thought I’d drop two excerpts from my dad’s WWII memoir to lighten the day. He was a Marine during WWII. That privilege was strictly for officers.

Microsoft’s browser “Edge” has its pros and cons. Mostly cons. And the pros are related to the cons. So, a lot of cons. Why do I mention Edge? The “stories” Edge pitches at me are almost always nonsense narratives, pushing faithful leftist causes. The last few days, Edge has been a fountain of nonsense about the LA riots – mostly chiding people (like me) for believing our lying eyes. What you've seen on TV and social media? It isn’t real. It isn’t happening or something.
