    No holidays. Not even those of the Made-for-TV variety such as "Black Friday." So, that's something. Even the rest of the schedule looks kind of normal, which is rare for the Pittsburgh Steelers. There are four non-Sunday games, and one international game, but unless "Flex Scheduling" gets its nasty self involved, the Steelers will play nine 1 p.m. Sunday games, one more than last season. Overall, it's a rather sane schedule for a team with a big brand in an insane, brand-driven league.

    I had to chuckle when I saw the headline "Unsung Steelers rookie turning heads immediately entering minicamp," because I knew it was a story about Thomas Perry, a short, unremarkable left guard from a Division III school. I had just Googled his name to see if he had been signed after the camp, the way NFL veteran RB Trey Sermon has been. Perry, so far, has not. And nor did he turn any - or at least my - head.

    All teams profess to love their draft picks, but the Steelers seem to REALLY love their guys this year. It could be more of a defense mechanism for why they didn't draft a receiver, but sources are adamant that their first five picks were head and shoulders atop their draft board at the time they were selected. Those players were impressive at rookie minicamp this weekend, when the Steelers opened a pair of walk-throughs to the media. There were no pads, nor any footballs in the air.
