While retailers in Limerick city deploy added security measures to combat shop lifting, it has now emerged that two libraries near busy shopping areas have had to engage professional security personnel to combat an outbreak of anti-social behavior. A spokesman for Limerick City and County Council (LCCC) said the measures are "necessary and justified" in terms of providing a safe environment for the public, as well as protecting the library buildings.

Limerick councillors will fly to New York and Georgia to wet the shamrock on St Patrick’s Day, a year after their last US visit sparked controversy over the cost of the trip. Last year, one of the three delegations which travelled ran up a tab of $440 (€419) in a New York bar. The total bill for the visit came in at $60,000 (€57,000). This year, the council is again fielding three teams of delegates made up of 14 councillors and four members of the council’s executive.

The few remaining house sites in the picture-postcard hamlet have seen prices go through the roof. House sites with services and planning permission are fetching up to €350,000. Local auctioneer John Giltinane said he knew of very few sites in Adare for sale.

Ballybunion Golf Club took in a record €8m during the 2024 golfing season, driven by a surge in US visitors. From April to early October, up to 15,000 golfers, mostly Americans, played the Kerry club's iconic Old Course, at a cost of up to €350 per round. Club treasurer Sean Healy said: "Green fees income was over €6m, an increase of €1.3m on 2023. "The shop revenue continues to excel with a turnover in excess of €2.3m and a gross profit of over €1m.
