The Buy and Renew scheme helped local authorities bring more than 950 homes back into use since it was introduced in 2016, but delivery figures nosedived in recent years. Spending on the scheme has halved in the last two years. New figures obtained by Sinn Féin housing spokesperson Eoin Ó Broin show that 117 buy and renew homes were delivered in 2020 when €19.7m was provided so councils could buy and refurbish abandoned homes to add to their social housing stock.
