Plastic recycling has remained low despite recent calls for reductions in waste generation and the need to implement more sustainable processes [1], [2]. With the rapid progress of industrialization, the combustion of fossil fuels has led to significant greenhouse gas emissions [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6]. The excessive release of CO2 has resulted in increasingly severe environmental challenges, encompassing global warming, rising sea levels, ocean acidification, and a heightened frequency of extreme weather events.
