1 Introduction Glycans are one of the most structurally diverse biomolecules in nature and play central roles in a range of important biological processes, including embryonic development, immune recognition, inflammatory response, and cell–cell communication.[1-4] The functions of glycans are exerted mainly through specific molecular recognition between glycans and glycan-binding proteins (lectins).
