It can be hard not to catastrophize everything that happens to you when you have an underlying chronic disease like Parkinson’s. Indeed, Parkinson’s can cause myriad symptoms. Stiffness and joint pain, gait problems, slurred speech, difficulty typing or using touch-screen technology — this disease is insidious and can show up in so many ways. Teasing out what is Parkinson’s-related and what might be caused by another issue is tricky.

Do you have a long list of binge-worthy shows typed into the notes application on your phone? If you’re like me, you do. Whenever a friend mentions a show they’ve enjoyed, I add it to my list. My husband, Arman, and I watch our shows as we settle into our cozy den each night after dinner and a board game. We love reality TV and the binge-worthy shows from our list. About a year ago, the Hulu show “Shrinking” came highly recommended.

Growing up, we always had a dog in our family. My mom was particularly fond of schnauzer breeds, so I always had a gray-haired, old-man-looking dog to walk, feed, and keep me company. One dog, Charlie Brown, came into our family a few years before I was born, so we grew up together. After he passed over the rainbow bridge to doggy heaven, I was devastated, as I’d never known life without dear Charlie. Fast forward to my life as a mom of three young children.

Hearing loss may be a risk factor for developing Parkinson’s disease, or may be an early warning sign of the neurodegenerative condition, according to a new study from the U.K.Specifically, the study found that for every 10 decibels of hearing impairment, the risk of developing Parkinson’s increased by more than 50%.

Second in a series. Read part one here. Every Tuesday I go on a walk with my Parkinson’s buddies. I started this “walk ‘n’ talk” group after my deep brain stimulation (DBS) surgery in 2021. I like talking about Parkinson’s, and usually I ask the other walkers questions about what’s going on with them or share about my own symptoms, medications, supplements, and so forth.
