    FROM ANSWER LINE: A reader asked me about Budget Motel on Marshall Avenue in Longview earlier this year, and I was able to provide some history about the motel, which has rooms that look like tiny houses with A-frame roofs. That motel will turn 76 on July 7. It's been owned since 2016 by Nayana Patel under the limited liability corporation Aanayana. She said she has modernized the rooms, replaced roofs and completed a major remodel in 2022.

    The Kilgore recycling facility that Longview had worked with for about 12 years will not rebuild after it was destroyed in a fire this past year. Following the fire in June 2024, Rivers Recycling President Jeff Craine said the facility would rebuild and reopen this year. However, Longview Public Works Director Dwayne Archer recently notified the City Council that the facility would not rebuild after all.

    A Longview man was released from the hospital Wednesday after an overnight incident in which he shot at a police officer. A second officer returned fire and hit 43-year-old Jory Sadler, police said. Sadler was held Wednesday in the Gregg County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault of a public servant and evading arrest detention with vehicle. Total bond was set at $2.01 million.

    Keep your flippers crossed Longview: If all goes according to plan, swim lessons will return to a public pool near you this summer. The city had offered swim lessons at its public pools for years — until COVID-19 arrived. Swim lessons were canceled during that time because the city was trying to abide by rules to limit contact and help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Swim lessons didn't return after that because the city didn't have an aquatics supervisor.
