The Court of Appeal in Mombasa has upheld a life sentence against two men who robbed a lorry and its trailer loaded with assorted electric appliances valued at sh13.5 million. Nicodemus Makau and Joseph Mativo will serve life jail terms after they were found guilty of robbing the truck and the appliances belonging to ONE to ONE Logistics Company Limited. They also attacked and robbed the truck driver, Benson Mwai, of his Techno touch screen, Nokia touch screen, and Kabambe, valued at sh27,449.

An accountant who was dismissed by a travel agency has won Sh1.8 million in unpaid dues. John Owiti said Highlight Travel Limited owes him unpaid annual leave for the years 2019 and 2020 amounting to sh298,226. He accused the former employer of unlawfully withholding salary from the months of March 2020 to March 2021, totalling sh1,789,356. Owiti also sought damages for discrimination in the workplace and sought for a certificate of service to be issued.

The National Lands Commission (NLC) has failed to secure an advisory opinion from the Supreme Court (SC) to shield it from a series of compulsory acquisition cases. NLC informed the SC that it has over 3,300 pending cases in court related to compulsory acquisition litigation, alongside several court decrees that require compliance and settlement.

Chinese civil engineering company Jiangxi Jing Tai Water Conservancy has been ordered to pay Sh340 million in taxes to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA). The Tax Appeal Tribunal said KRA’s assessment of Sh340.91 million was justifiable. The tribunal ruled that the firm did not file a valid objection to explain why KRA’s assessment could have been issued in error.

Africa Gas and Oil Company Limited (AGOL) has won a Sh96.1 million tax refund case against the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA). The tax tribunal dismissed KRA's VAT demand of Sh96,181,775 from the firm based in Mombasa. Justices Nyongesa Wafula, Cynthia Mayaka, Gloria Ogaga, Rodney Oluoch, and Abraham Kiprotich ordered KRA to process LPG's VAT refund claim within 90 days.
