    The 4th Dorset regiment in the Netherlands (Image: Supplied) RECENT days have seen some moving commemorations of the 80th anniversary of VE Day. We hope you enjoyed the Dorset Echo's VE Day 80 supplement, packed with pictures and stories from that monumental day, which was in Thursday's paper. Among the dwindling number of veterans being recognised for their incredible efforts was Ken Hay, who served in the 4th Dorset infantry regiment.

    Charles Street in Dorchester was demolished in 1989 - and people have fond memories of the neighbourhood, with the road remaining today but the homes long gone and just a car park remaining. Above you can see a picture of the still-standing Charles Street. Another photo shows a lone pedestrian walking down a very deserted, empty street with all the residents having moved out as the street awaits demolition. In another photo we can see into the back gardens of the houses.

    Here's what I though of pub's famous carvery (Image: NQ) Speak to anyone living in the Dorchester area and chances are they'll name the Sun Inn as one of the go-to destinations for a carvery. The 17th century pub's website itself proudly refers to 'our famous carvery', so it was pertinent that I offered myself up for another brush with gastronomic fame - all in the name of an Echo Taste Test.
