    Summer isn’t typically a season I’ve associated with learning. Vacations, yes. Chilling with family and friends on balmy, sunny days, that’s the ideal. But every once in a while, life takes a bit of an unexpected turn — or, in my case, a self-imposed detour into uncomfortable new territory. And you never know what lessons lie ahead. Lesson Number One: EMTs, when the patient is talking and joking on the way to the hospital, are big on gallows humor.

    Tu Madre Mexican eatery has reopened at 660 N. Larchmont, the former site of Art Works Studio, located at the southeast corner of Larchmont and Melrose. The new space features a large dine-in area with lots of windows and a large U-shaped bar. There is also outdoor seating. Guests can dig into a wide range of beverages, Tu Madre is fully licensed to serve alcohol. The previous location at 203 N. Larchmont was limited to take-out service only and closed in December 2022.

    Just in time for summer, Awan, the plant-based ice cream brand, has opened a new location on Melrose, right next to Dayglow Coffee. Founded by Australian native Zen Ong and co-owner Tohm Ifergan, who also owns Dayglow Coffee, Awan brings a delightful twist to the plant-based dessert scene. Zen Ong has spent years perfecting his plant-based ice cream, which uses Indonesian coconut cream and coconut water as its base, with vanilla beans imported directly from a natural farm in Bali.

    What qualifies as R and D for tax purposes? The existing definition on our website is fine but maybe add that you cannot claim if the advance sought is in the arts, humanities or social sciences (including economics). Before April 2024, the way that tax relief was given for research and development expenditure differed depending on whether you were a small/medium sized enterprise or a large company.
