Emman Hizon woke up in the morning of May 12 believing that Akbayan Citizens’ Party would secure at least one seat in the House of Representatives, that is, if election surveys were accurate. But by night time, it was clear that the outcome exceeded all expectations. Akbayan had pulled off the biggest surprise during the 2025 elections by topping the race dominated by political dynasties and factions loyal to either side of the warring Duterte and Marcos camps.

MANILA, Philippines – The roadblock to Duterte Youth’s third term in Congress comes in the form of a five-year-old petition pending before the Commission on Elections (Comelec). Comelec on Monday, May 20, announced that Duterte Youth is one of the two groups whose proclamation it is suspending due to its pending cases. The party-list group, which has long been criticized for echoing the repressive stance and rhetoric of its namesake Rodrigo Duterte, is facing at least two cases.

MANILA, Philippines – The 2025 midterm elections recorded the highest number of Filipinos voting for party-list groups in over a decade, but the number of invalid or blank votes remains largely unchanged. Data from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) show that 73.14% of those who voted in the 2025 elections successfully cast a vote for a party-list group. This is equivalent to 41,950,292 out of the 57,353,968 actual voters. At least 3,333,868 people selected more than one party-list group.

Former senator and boxing icon Manny Pacquiao was unsuccessful in his bid for a Senate comeback three years after his failed 2022 presidential run. Data from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) shows that Pacquiao ranked 18th with 10,397,133 votes, which is far behind the magic 12 winners in the senatorial race.

MANILA, Philippines – The progressive Makabayan bloc is down to two seats from three in the House of Representatives after only two party-list groups won in the 2025 elections. ACT Teachers and Kabataan were included in the 52 party-list groups proclaimed by the Commission on Elections on Monday, May 19. They each get one seat in the incoming 20th Congress. ACT Teachers will be represented by returning legislator Antonio Tinio, while lawyer Renee Co will be the Kabataan representative.

RT @lianbuan: Here's a thread on our stories on Duterte in The Hague to help make sense of the foreign concept that is the ICC. Let's beg…

We cannot be certain at this point that a warrant will be issued. But then again, Senator Dela Rosa is the chief architect of the drug war and the TokHang campaign was his brainchild.

Again crunching ICC data, warrants between defendants after one suspect was taken into custody were issued less than a month apart. That's the historical prospect for Duterte's other alleged co-perpetrators. @jodeszgavilan reports: https://t.co/3AyKGXW33y

I saw one of the messages sent to Tina (not her real name), whose brother was killed in 2017. One accused her of being a drug user herself. These did not come from troll accounts, but actual profiles of supporters of former president Rodrigo Duterte. https://t.co/1bQ5DDyx7X
