WARNING: This story contains graphic details of violence involving a minor. THUNDER BAY – A youth has been convicted of first-degree murder in the grisly death of 14-year-old Kayliegh Ivall. Ivall was found dead on April 27, 2020 after she was reported missing by her family. Her body was found in a wooded area near Arundel Street and Lyon Boulevard. The accused, who cannot be named in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was 14 at the time of their arrest on May 4, 2020.

THUNDER BAY – No further evidence will be called in the trial of a Thunder Bay Police Service officer. Staff-Sgt. Michael Dimini is facing charges of breach of trust and obstruction in relation to an incident at a West Frederica Street apartment on Nov. 24, 2020. Four police officers were dispatched to help keep the peace as Dimini’s then father-in-law had arranged to buy back a TV that had been stolen from his storage area.

Michael Dimini, of the Thunder Bay Police Service, ended with the filing of an agreed statement of facts, outlining how Dimini accessed and edited the report of another officer. Dimini is charged with breach of trust and obstruction in relation to an incident at a West Frederica Street apartment on Nov. 24, 2020.

THUNDER BAY — No one saw who shot Charlie Finlayson, both the Crown and defence agreed during closing submissions heard Thursday at the Thunder Bay Courthouse. Justin Coaster, 34, pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree murder and criminal negligence causing bodily harm in January of this year. Thunder Bay police reported to a weapons call on July 29, 2022 in the 800 block of McMillan Street where Finlayson, 37, was found deceased. Coaster was arrested on Aug. 11, 2022.

THUNDER BAY — A youth from Hamilton, Ont., has been found not guilty of murder in the death of 23-year-old Dallas Bannon. Thunder Bay Police Service officers had responded to calls for assistance on Jan. 22, 2023 at a housing complex in the 700 block of John Street. A male with injuries consistent with a shooting was found and taken to the hospital. He was later pronounced dead.
