THUNDER BAY — Property-owners around the city are receiving notices that they can expect to see a crew in their neighbourhood planting trees in the coming weeks. This year the city's forestry and horticulture section will plant just under under 1,000 trees of various species including northwood maple, Carolina poplar and many others. "We try to have some diversity, so that we don't end up with a monoculture of a single species," said Cory Halvorsen, manager of parks and open spaces.

THUNDER BAY — A brazen theft from the property of a local organization that supports children and youth has left supporters of the group shaking their heads. Over the weekend, two individuals entered the yard of Our Kids Count on McKenzie Street and stole multiple rolls of newly-laid sod. Video captured on a surveillance camera shows them using a push carriage to make two trips as they transported the sod to the east side of Simpson Street.
