Tickets are selling out quickly for the eighth annual Downtown Connellsville Chili Walk. Featuring samples of chili at eight stops, the walk is scheduled 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 4 in throughout downtown Connellsville. Tickets are $10 apiece and available at the sites that will serve chili during the event. A vacant house at 113 N. Sixth St., Connellsville, was heavily damaged in a late Thursday evening fire. Firefighters from the New Haven Hose Company and Connellsville Township Volunteer Fire Department were called to the residential neighborhood 10:35 p.m. Thursday. When firefighters arrived, flames were showing from the first and second floors of the two-story, wood-frame house, New Haven Chief Jeff Layton said. He said the fire was burning from the basement to the roof.

It took nearly four months and voting at two school board meetings, but Connellsville Area administrators have a new agreement for compensation and benefits. In a 6-2 vote Wednesday, the board approved the six-year deal – but one director strongly opposed one aspect of the compensation package. The agreement is required under state Act 93 and is not collective bargaining.

Connellsville Area Community Ministries is raising money to develop a downtown park next to its thrift store at 110 W. Crawford Ave. The Common Ground Fundraiser is scheduled 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 9 in the Thrift store operated by the faith-based, nonprofit organization. Executive Director Dana Krofcheck said tickets are $20 for the event, which will feature snacks, beverages and chances to win one of the many gift baskets donated for fundraiser.

When the Connellsville Area School Board meets Wednesday, it is expected to consider a compensation and benefits agreement for district administrators. Connellsville Area administrators covered under the state Act 93 statute have been without an agreement since June 30. Act 93 does not cover superintendents of schools, who contract individually with their respective public school districts.
