The last semester of my high school life was something that went by in a flash. June seemed a long way off for graduation when we started school in January. Yes, we were supposed to get out in May, but believe it or not, it used to snow a lot, and so school stretched into June. There were college choices, ACTs, senior doings, prom and then graduation. Not once, not one time, did I think about what all this meant to my mom.

I could not do it. No, thank you. I could not do it. Frankly, I don’t know how anyone does it, but I have utmost respect for those that do. I don’t think they do it for the glory because if this is what glory is, boy I missed this one by a mile. A referee. An umpire. An official. You could not pay me enough money to do these jobs. I recently sat courtside at a college basketball game and some of the things they yelled at the referees would have made Redd Foxx blush.

JOE DUBINMain Street Media of TN Recently, I was going through an old footlocker I have that stores most of my life’s memories. As I went through everything, I pulled out a box that I had not opened in forever. It was a mix and match of a lot of things I have acquired in my life, but one thing I pulled out made me feel like a teenager again. Concert tickets. Yes, concert tickets. That might be a strange concept to our youth of today and that is okay. We now live in a digital world, not material.

She would bark for hours and hours if she wanted to. Sometimes at nothing. Sometimes at any and everything that moved in the slightest. She would bark her head off at the delivery drivers. One time the turkeys were crossing the yard, and they stopped for about 20 minutes. She barked at them so loudly that I am sure she violated a noise ordinance. Then ran to me in the living room and barked at me, telling me there were turkeys in the yard. She then ran back to the window and barked more.

Recently, a friend from high school posted on Facebook that he was now six months sober. A huge accomplishment for someone who had been drinking for probably 40 years. After he posted that, a few days later he wrote that he was no longer going to do that because some people on Facebook criticized him for posting something personal and a few posted nonsense, just being terrible people. I wrote back and told him two words he should carry with him on his journey.
