Elkhart track and field shines at regional meet

The Elkhart track and field team had 17 athletes advance to the regional meet Friday, April 18 and Saturday, April 19 at Huntsville ISD. The Lady Elks had eight athletes advance after the area round at Fairfield High School as Bailey Jones won the area title in the pole vault with a height of nine feet. The Palestine Wildcats have needed a walk-off hit in the past two games to stay in the chase for a playoff spot. After a walk-off victory Friday against the Rusk Eagles off the bat of Rohyn Price, Tuesday's 3-2 victory over the Rusk Eagles came courtesy of senior Tag Dillard. Dillard roped a double to left field driving in Zaylon Warren, who doubled in the previous at-bat for the winning run.

The Palestine Wildcats finished in third place in the District 17-4A Track and Field meet Wednesday at Wildcat Stadium. Palestine had 10 individuals and two relay teams qualify for the area track and field meet as the top four finishers in their events. SLOCUM - The Slocum Lady Mustangs needed extra innings to take down the Jewett Leon Lady Cougars in a District 21-2A battle Tuesday at Slocum. The Mustangs (12-5) scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning for a 7-6 come from behind victory. The runs came on an RBI hit by pitch scoring Cassidy Cumby and a RBI-walk scoring Addison Lake. Leon opened up the scoring in the top of the first inning as Sammie Free drove in Olivia Zarsky with a double.

Palestine loses to Pine Tree in bi-district round

TYLER - The Palestine Wildcats season came to an end in an untimely fashion Friday at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium. In the bi-district round of the Class 4A, Division I soccer playoffs, the Pine Tree Pirates sent the Wildcats home with a 2-1 victory. Palestine ends the year with a record of 18-4-1 under coach John Absalom. The last time Palestine lost in the bi-district round was in 2000.
