"It wasn't one of our better games and we got beat,'' sophomore forward Maddie DiMaria said when asked about the loss. Jiu-jitsu's loss was wrestling's gain. Francis Howell Central senior Kailey Benson grew up training and competing in jiu-jitsu. In high school, she switched over to wrestling. And she never looked back. "Almost right away, I could tell that this was where I belonged, that this was my sport,'' said Benson, 17, who recently completed her second perfect wrestling season and repeated as the Post-Dispatch All-Metro girls wrestler of the year.

The 2025 Post-Dispatch All-Metro winter series continues with boys wrestling. Jonathan Rulo, a junior at Belleville East, is one of the top young wrestlers in the United States. He went 35-0 and captured the Illinois Class 3A heavyweight title in February and followed that by winning a Junior Folkstyle National Championship in Des Moines, Iowa, in March. But Rulo, who recently celebrated his 17th birthday, isn't expected to wrestle beyond high school.

He dominated at Mizzou Arena, posting two major decisions, a technical fall and a 46-second pin. He finished third at 175 as a freshman.
