The courts are not the place for planning applications to be decided once the planning process has gone through, Taoiseach Micheál Martin has said. He was speaking at the official opening of a wastewater treatment plant in Arklow, Co Wicklow. At the event Uisce Éireann CEO Niall Gleeson said objections to infrastructure projects are not helping the environment, are costing the taxpayer millions and are stopping young people from getting homes.

People Before Profit's Ruth Coppinger has said that she and other TDs have been accused of not telling the truth and that women from the Mothers Against Genocide group who were arrested outside Leinster House three weeks ago "have been made out to be liars" by the Garda Commissioner and the Minister for Justice. She was referring to allegations made by some women, who alleged that they were strip searched and one was subjected to a cavity search while in garda custody.

Sinn Féin has announced the chairpersons of the Oireachtas committees it will take charge of, including the powerful Public Accounts Committee. Wicklow Sinn Féin TD John Brady will chair the PAC. Former PAC chair Deputy Mairead Farrell will head up the Committee on Finance. Matt Carthy will chair the Committee on Justice, Home Affairs and Migration, while Maurice Quinlivan will take charge of the Committee on Disability Matters.

A plan to build 30 windturbines in the Atlantic Ocean off the Co Galway and Co Clare coast, which was one of six major offshore windfarm projects central to the Government's Climate Action Plan, will not now be proceeding. The Sceirde Rocks Windfarm project, that was developed by Corio Generation, was due to deliver power for 350,000 homes and save 550,000 tonnes of carbon per yearSpeaking as Gaeilge earlier today, Taoiseach Micheál Martin said he was disappointed at the news.
