As I sit here penning this week's column, it is now nearly dark outside, and yet I was still able to go outside for a little while without the need of a heavy coat as the temperature this evening is still pushing forty degrees. What a welcome relief from the long winter and brutal winter temperatures we have endured the last few months. And the weather for the next day, while not showing signs of increasing, at least doesn't look like it will plummet either.

Turkey season; It's just not long enough. Well, not for me anyway. If you love turkey hunting and find yourself wishing you could just do more of it; you can. Here in Indiana, our spring turkey season is only open for two-and-half weeks, and that is simply not enough for me. Opening in late April and closing in mid-May with a bag limit of one bird just doesn't do it for me anymore. I enjoy turkey hunting too much to only spend a couple of weeks out of the year doing it.

There are those people who crave this time of year, who wish for freezing temperatures and pathetic wind chills. They are not sort of whackos in search of a crazy adventure, well maybe they are. But more specifically they enjoy ice fishing. This winter has blessed us with plenty of days to be on the ice already, and with the current forecast, plenty more to come.
