A 4.0 earthquake was felt across Greater Victoria just after 4:00am this morning. The earthquake struck in Haro Strait just west of San Juan Island. According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the quake hit at a depth of 52 kilometres. CHEK News was contacted by several people saying they felt the quake.

Posted: Dec. 25, 2023 9:04PMThe province has closed Highway 4 along Cameron Lake in both directions Monday night due to debris and falling rock. The closure is between Cathedral Grove/MacMillan Provincial Park and Koen Road. According to DriveBC a geotechnical assesment is underway. A detour route is not available. The closure was announced just after 6:00pm and the next update is expected Tuesday morning at 10:00am.

Posted: Aug. 15, 2023 7:57PMThe Malahat is currently closed in both directions as crews battle a forest fire just south of the Split Rock Lookout. Malahat Fire confirms to CHEK News that its members were called to attend three brush fires around 6:50pm. Photos posted online show a small brush fire burning just off the highway.
