The B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Transit is warning drivers of a planned road closure along Highway 4 near Cameron Lake next week. The closure is scheduled for June 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will affect both directions. The province says the temporary closure is to remove debris that fell near the highway and landed in a catchment.

Victoria police are appealing for information into the disappearance of Belinda Cameron, a mother of two who went missing roughly 20 years ago. Cameron was 42 years old when she was last seen on May 11, 2005, at the Shoppers Drug Mart in the 800-block of Esquimalt Road. She was reported missing on June 4, 2005, almost exactly 20 years ago to the day. Police say they launched a wide-ranging search at the time, conducting more than 100 interviews and using helicopters and police dogs.

The North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP say a man was reported missing more than three months ago has been found dead. Cowichan elder Clyde Johnny Sr. was last seen on Feb. 25, and was reported missing on March 5. Now, Mounties say his body was found on May 28. “Although a full determination has yet to be made, the RCMP does not believe that criminality was involved in the man’s sudden death,” said police in a statement on Thursday, June 5.

The Island-based Wild Wise Society is urging residents to secure their garbage after a video showed the moment when a black bear made off with a heaping bag of garbage. Wild Wise says the video was sent to the group on Wednesday evening, and shows a black bear carrying a full garbage bag towards a wooded area in Sooke. The group says that by not securing your attractants, like garbage, you’re putting yourselves and animals at risk.

Emergency crews were called to the Deep Bay Marina, north of Parksville, on Thursday morning for a report of a boat explosion. Deep Bay Fire Rescue says firefighters were called just before 10:10 a.m.Photos of the marina show the side of a sail boat torn open, with debris falling onto the dock and floating on the water. An air ambulance could also be seen landing at the marina.
