HOOD RIVER— La Salle Prep ended Hood River Valley’s league baseball win streak May 2, as junior pitcher Declan O’Brien tossed a three-hitter during the Falcon’s 3-0 home win in Milwaukie. Hood River (11-6 overall, 6-1 league) had entered the game tied with La Salle, Wilsonville and Canby — as each team was unbeaten in Northwest Oregon Conference (NWOC) play but with slight variations of win totals.

HOOD RIVER — The cautionary tale about not getting ahead of oneself over the course of a sports season is appropriate over the next three weeks for the No. 11-ranked Hood River Valley baseball team. The gauntlet laid before the Eagles is a formidable one and likely will decide the team’s 2025 Class 5A state playoff fate. But first things first. HRV is 9-5 overall and 4-0 in the grueling Northwest Oregon Conference.

HOOD RIVER — Hood River Valley (HRV) took care of two familiar baseball foes mid last week before Portland’s Lincoln High walked away with a win by week’s end on April 4. The 2-1 record left Coach Max Reitz’s team at 4-4 heading into the final run of nonleague games this week.

HOOD RIVER — The nuances of successful baseball include how well a team can pitch the ball and field the ball — simply stated and perhaps in theory, but sometimes not so simple in practice. Do those two things well and success often follows. Hood River Valley’s baseball team — like all their Oregon counterparts — is ready to put the theory to the test.

HOOD RIVER — The Hood River Valley (HRV) girls swimming team beat the snow, survived last-minute workout preparation changes, as well as the rest of the Northwest Oregon Conference (NWOC) teams, to win the 2025 district championship. The finals, at Parkrose High School, were held Feb. 12 — moved up from Feb. 14-15 — because of expected adverse winter weather in Portland. That weather hit the Metro area Feb.

HOOD RIVER — Hood River Valley’s girls basketball team is in the midst of a three-game stretch of which the results will weigh heavily on the Eagles’ Class 5A state playoff fortunes. HRV (10-9 overall, 4-5 league as of Feb. 9) split two games last week to remain in contention for one of four Northwest Oregon Conference berths into the state playoffs. The Eagles entered the week in sixth place in league play, but they are one game out of third in the win column.

HOOD RIVER — Hood River Valley (HRV) opened its 2024-25 Northwest Oregon Conference (NWOC) girls basketball season by winning one of three games this past week. Though there is plenty of basketball yet to be played, the victory could prove to be an important one in terms of future league playoff status. The Eagles (who entered this week 7-6 overall, 1-2 NWOC) won at Hillsboro, 49-45, on Jan. 18, and followed that victory with a seven-point loss two days later at La Salle Prep.

HOOD RIVER — Things are trending upward with the Hood River Valley (HRV) girls basketball program, after a winless season — albeit a shortened one because of COVID — four years ago. “The last four years we’ve just kind of got three or four more wins each year, so, I hope we can continue that,” said Coach Steve Noteboom of the upcoming 2024-25 season. The numbers are good, as HRV will field varsity, junior varsity and JVII teams this winter.

THE DALLES — The team aspect of cross country is evident in many ways, from tight bunching in races to competitive summer and fall workouts — sometimes twice a day. But rationing Halloween candy? Or going all-out, suit-and-tie-formal for a simple pre-meet team dinner? Such was the formula for The Dalles High’s 2024 boys season when, over a 10-day period, the Riverhawks erased the bitter taste of a runner-up finish at district by winning the second-place trophy at the state meet.

HOOD RIVER — Hood River Valley’s (HRV) boys cross country team finished fourth at the Nov. 9 OSAA Class 5A state cross country championships at Lane Community College in Eugene, adding more hardware to the school’s trophy case. The HRV boys team was making its ninth state meet appearance in the past 10 finals that have been held. The Eagles now have four, fourth-place 5A trophies in that span (2024, 2022, 2016, 2015).
