The Royal Institution (RI) is to tell visitors to its Faraday Museum whether scientists were racist or had links to slavery. A review is under way at the London headquarters of the 226-year-old organisation to add context to exhibits of scientists who held views considered racist by modern standards. Plans are being drawn up by the charity to provide "permanent interpretation" on displays which feature prominent historical figures that held problematic views.

The first day of spring this week is set to see temperatures hit 19C (66F). Astronomical spring in the northern hemisphere begins with the spring equinox on Thursday, March 20, and the Met Office forecasts a high of 19C in the south of England, and up to 17C in the north, on this day. Only the central and northern parts of Scotland are expected to be cooler, with these areas expected to be closer to the average temperatures for this time of year at about 9-10C.

Online restaurant reviews are to be used to trace food poisoning outbreaks. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) conducted a study that used AI to scour the web for restaurant reviews mentioning meals causing illness. Data show that AI is more than 90 per cent successful at identifying outbreaks of gastrointestinal (GI) illness and finding the source of the problem.
