In a bid to strengthen Europe’s defence links, the German air force’s space command wants to use SaxaVord Spaceport in the Shetlands for “sovereign launch” capabilities. It will mean the spaceport on Unst will carry out launches of military as well as commercial satellites.

Operations at Cononish in the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park have been at a standstill since 2023 after the mine’s parent company went into administration, leaving the 80 person workforce on unpaid leave.

Haggis has at las been allowed to explore the outdoors following an increase in temperatures (Image: Edinburgh Zoo) HAGGIS, the Edinburgh Zoo hippo which took the internet by storm, has now been allowed to explore outside by keepers. The pygmy hippo calf can now be seen exploring her outdoor habitat alongside her mum Gloria. She was initially not allowed to leave her enclosure due to the cold climate, only able to leave her enclosure once the temperature had risen above 10C.
