Chelsea banished their away-day blues by beating Nottingham Forest 1-0 at the City Ground to return to the Champions League and consign their hosts to the Conference League. It provided a positive end to a challenging domestic campaign for Enzo Maresca and his young side, who have faced questions over their mentality and lack of experience. It also prompted a bullish response from the head coach, who told the doubters to "f*** off" in his post-match comments.

Chelsea banished their away-day blues by beating Nottingham Forest 1-0 at the City Ground to return to the Champions League and consign their hosts to the Conference League. Chelsea knew that, regardless of the results earned by their Champions League rivals Manchester City, Newcastle and Aston Villa, they would finish in a qualification place for the first time since the 2021/22 season with victory over Forest.

Enzo Maresca is choosing to remain positive. After Saturday's FA Cup exit at the hands of Brighton - something the head coach called "a shame" - he preferred to look on the bright side. "If there is something positive it is that we can now be focused on the Premier League and Conference [League]," he said. Whether Chelsea supporters - especially those who witnessed the tepid display at the Amex - shared the Italian's optimism is doubtful.

RT @NizaarKinsella: I still can’t get my head around this reaction. You’ll Never Walk Alone?

Granted they play for sides with different styles, but Chalobah's possession stats hold up against Huijsen's. Don't buy the argument that Fofana's absence has been key to Chelsea's drop off https://t.co/kczllIRlvz

Enzo Maresca puts a heavy emphasis on possession and believes his plans have been compromised by Wesley Fofana’s fitness problems. [guardian] https://t.co/6k5fAe1vUl

Much better second half and huge result for Chelsea and Maresca. Great moment for George too. Champions League hopes still alive. As for Fulham, amazed Silva took so long to make subs. Threw away Fulham’s momentum
