    Raise your hand if you were ever a student at Rankin Elementary — and wave farewell. Demolition began last week at the school on Storer Avenue in West Akron. It started with an addition on the backside of the building that housed my kindergarten classroom. That's gone now. The rest of the old red brick building, constructed a century ago, will rapidly follow. I drove around its block Sunday morning for one last look. I only spent a year at Rankin, but it was hugely important.

    Dear Bristol City Council,Democratic Services are refusing to accept questions, even where they clearly seem to relate to the business of committees. The apparent unwillingness of the local authority to be scrutinised on important issues is a matter of real concern and a poor start to what was supposed to be a more transparent, open, democratic way of running the council.
