An airdrop of fire retardant in Ritsona, Greece, on May 19. (Bloomberg) -- Greece ordered its first evacuation of the wildfire season, as temperatures climbed and the wind strengthened. Traffic was halted and locals roads closed, as a blaze started in low lying vegetation in Anavissos, a town around 46 kilometers (29 miles) southeast of Athens. An evacuation order was issued as 110 firefighters supported by three aircraft and four helicopters tackled the blaze.

The container vessel, MV Wan Hai 503, was located approximately 21 Nautical Miles west of the Beypore-Azhikkal port in north Kerala when the blaze broke out on Monday morning, June 9. Authorities said the 886ft (270m) vessel had departed from Colombo and was en route to Mumbai, carrying 650 containers and 22 crew members.
