Lady Chargers struggle in Katy

KATY — Giving up two goals in the first half was hard for the Fulshear Lady Chargers to overcome against Houston Lamar on Friday afternoon, as they lost 2-0 at the Katy ISD I-10 Shootout at Katy Jordan High School. In the second game of the tournament, the Lady Texans came out on fire with a wind that was gusting at 20 mph.

RICHMOND — Since taking her first running strides back in 2010, Elizabeth Julainne Mills has ventured out to different places to keep her body in motion. As the 53rd edition of the Chevron Houston Marathon approaches on Jan. 19, Mills will be partaking in her eighth one. “The first few I ran with my dad. I would run them with my stepmom taking care of the kids. My father and I would have a father/ daughter date,” Mills said. “It was amazing being together, but we didn’t run side by side.

Carlos Villagomez, recently graduated from Prairie View A&M with a bachelors degree in business administration in management and a minor in supply chain management with honors in Magna Cum Laude. He is the first in his family to earn a degree from college and play a Division I sport. “When i walked across that stage I was going through a lot of emotions and couldn't thank God and my family enough to reach this achievement,” Villagomez said.

A one-sport athlete by the time she was eight years old, Fulshear High School swimmer Avery Dillon blossomed right after selecting swimming as her main course of success. The Lady Charger became such a good swimmer that she recently signed to continue that challenge at Texas Christian University. “It was quick for me with TCU because I started my recruiting process in March of 2024 and went on to a visit in April and committed a few weeks after that,” Dillon said.

Playing at Katy Freeman High School the Lions improved in the new season to 1-1-1. “The first game was rough for us in this tournament, but we looked better the second game and of course this one was much better,” Randle third year head coach Camilo Marin said. “So we improved in every game and I think we will be Ok in district.”Coming off the first playoff appearance in 2024 the Lions returned seven starters including captains senior Amir Abd and junior Raul Vega.

ROSHARON — Playing a scoreless match against Fort Bend-Hightower, somehow the Terry Lady Rangers found that magic moment with seven minutes left on the clock to pull out a 1-0 win at the Wagon Wheel Classic Soccer Tournament Thursday afternoon at Freedom Field. In a different looking second half, the Lady Rangers, didn’t look as hesitant like in the first 35 minutes of play.

LOUISE — Continuing to grow as a team, Needville competed at the Lady Hornet Christmas Classic in Louise on Friday and Saturday. In the nightcap Needville (1-12 overall) showed a lot of spunk against a Tidehaven Lady Tiger bunch that came into the encounter 19-1 on Friday afternoon. The Lady Tigers, ranked second in Class 3A in Texas Girls Coaches Association state poll, eventually pulled away from the Lady Jays 67-21.
