The 2025 season marks the 55-year anniversary of their 1970 World Series matchup, and both the Reds and O’s come into this series looking for signs that they can contend this season. Cincinnati started the year 2-6, including losing three straight 1-0 games, but is 7-4 since.

Norfolk got out to that lead thanks to a pair of big innings. Down 2-0 in the top of the 3rd, Maverick Handley started the first rally with a leadoff single.

That the pitching staff has the second-worst starter ERA in baseball is not all that surprising. However, the sheer mediocrity of this offense is hard to ignore amidst the Orioles’ overarching struggles. This team was clearly constructed to win games by putting up offensive numbers that most other squads can’t keep pace with.

Early on it looked like the Tides would coast to a victory thanks to a four-spot in the bottom of the second.
