Image source, Getty ImagesBBC Final Score reporter at St James' ParkThe Newcastle players and their families are on the pitch celebrating, with one of the heroes of this wonderful season Dan Burn holding the EFL Cup. They're in disbelief that they've made the Champions League despite a really nervy, edgy performance and a disappointing defeat. There were crazy scenes at the end.

At the full-time whistle, I made sure I looked straight up to the Ipswich fans to see their reaction to the confirmation that the club were heading back to the Championship. It was no surprise to see them all on their feet applauding the players. Kieran McKenna was not surprised either. He told me after the Newcastle game that the supporters have always appreciated this incredible journey they have been on together from League One to the Premier League.

There was never really any doubt that Newcastle would welcome Eddie Howe back with a win on Saturday. I spoke to Dan Burn and Nick Pope who both talked about the boost Howe's return after illness gave the squad going into the Ipswich game. Burn told me the manager said to the players earlier in the week that he would take it easy in training but that only lasted 30 seconds before he had stopped the session! That just sums up Howe's personality and drive to make this team better.

RT @CPFC: "Oli, give us a wave, Oli, Oli, give us a wave" We finally got the wave 👀 #CPFC https://t.co/qyxejLl00V

Luka Modric is without doubt my favourite footballer to watch live over the last 10-15 years. If you’re inside a stadium seeing a Croatia or Real game he’s of those players who you end up following, even off the ball, for his amazing, graceful movement. One of the greats.

Yes it was a low quality final (which I wouldn’t care about one single bit if I was a Spurs fan)… but I don’t get the debate around a Champions League place being the prize for winning the Europa League. It makes perfect sense & adds a brilliant extra edge to the competition.
