    Area boys track and field teams were ready to push themselves to the limit Friday night at the 51st Ron Gummerson Cougar Track Classic hosted by Conant. The meet featured Class A, B, and C groups in each event. Prospect ran away with the combined team championship of the 17-team meet with 140 points. Glenbard West slipped past Jacobs 104 to 102.33 for second place followed by Maine South (75 points) in seventh, Schaumburg (74.5) in eighth, and Maine East (73) in ninth.

    The 21-team Lake County Invitational was going to be a tough test, and a tuneup for conference meets for area boys track and field teams Thursday night at Round Lake. Grayslake Central rose to the championship of the massive field with 100 points to topple runner-up Lake Zurich with 88.5 points. Barrington (64.5 points) placed third. Grayslake Central sophomore Ken-Ye Pendleton won the 100-meter dash in a school record time of 10.82 seconds to nip Grayslake North's Cameron Bates by .02 seconds.

    The Prospect girls track and field team won their 13th Mid-Suburban League championship Wednesday night at Hoffman Estates to tie Wheeling for the most titles in league history. The Knights rolled to their fifth crown in a row with 166 points. Barrington (94 points) took second followed by Hersey (84 points) in third, and Schaumburg (82.5 points) in fourth. Prospect's team of Amina Hadziahmetovic, Anna Niebrugge, Samantha Skowronski, and Nikki Niebrugge (47.76 seconds) won the 4x100 relay.

    It was a great weekend for the Naperville North boys water polo team as the Huskies competed in the very powerful Stevenson Invitational. No. 2-ranked Naperville North beat York 16-8 and Lyons 13-8 on Friday before rolling past Lincoln-Way East 13-5 in its first game on Saturday. Due to prom commitments for both No. 1-ranked New Trier (25-2) and the Huskies (25-4) the title game consisted mainly of junior varsity players. And the Trevians swam away with the team title 8-5 over Naperville North.

    The Rolling Meadows Mustang Classic was going to be a good test for area boys track and field teams to see where they stand with about a month to go in the 2025 season. When all was said and done, St. Charles North that captured the championship of the eight-team meet with 140.5 points. Huntley and Warren (103 points) tied for second followed by Fremd (96 points) in fourth, and the host Mustangs (93 points) in fifth.
