It is still early in the 2025 boys track season, but the 53rd Stevenson Patriot Relays Thursday night was a sign of good things to come for area teams. In the end, Barrington took home the championship of the 11-team meet by a score of 70-60 over runner-up Grayslake Central. The host Patriots and Lakes (59 points) tied for third while Grant (51 points) placed fifth.

The 11-team Buffalo Grove girls track and field Invite was a big test for area squads Saturday afternoon under some ideal weather conditions for the outdoor meet. Lake Zurich rolled to the team title with 140.5 points followed by Evanston (104 points) in second, and Stevenson (78 points) in third. Schaumburg edged Fremd 74.5 to 73 for fourth place while Lake Park (70.5) placed sixth.

After losing a marathon first set 34-32 to host Stevenson, the Libertyville boys volleyball team had to regroup in its North Suburban Conference season opener Wednesday night. And the undefeated Wildcats (4-0, 1-0) did just that as they rolled to a 25-15 win in the second set before pulling away for a 25-16 victory in the third set to win the match. The Patriots (3-5, 0-1) led 9-6 in the third set on a service point by Evan Headley.

The ninth annual Barrington-Vernon Hills Invitational had some dramatic finishes for area boys volleyball teams Saturday afternoon at Vernon Hills. Brother Rice (8-1) won the championship of the 12-team tournament with an exciting 25-22 victory over Sandburg (6-1) in the third set to take home the team title. In the third-place match, No. 12-ranked South Elgin (6-3) fell to No.19 Lane Tech (8-2) 25-15, 22-25, 25-21 as the Storm held a 7-1 lead early in the third set.
