    OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - A month after asking the state to proceed with his execution, Nikko Jenkins made a court appearance via video conferencing Thursday afternoon. About a month ago, the Omaha spree killer was demanding the state set an execution date. But on Thursday, Jenkins’ attorney said his client — who appeared to nod off during the proceedings — changed his mind and now wants to continue his appeals.

First responders with the Omaha Fire Department were called to the parking lot of an apartment complex in Omaha around 7:30 a.m. Thursday. Once there, they acted quickly to save a man who became trapped in a garbage truck. “I saw the first fire truck arrive and then I saw the guys getting out and looking over to a garbage truck,” witness Kevin Perlic said.
