Graham Dowling, 36, who takes medication for his condition, has already admitted a charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent following his attack on a 61-year-old man at the residential home in Barkerend Road last December. But Dowling has denied the attempted murder charge, and on Thursday, he gave evidence during his trial at Bradford Crown Court. Dowling said he never intended to kill the complainant when he punched, kicked, and stamped on him during the attack in the victim’s room.

Paranoid William Leathem, 40, had been taking crack cocaine before he went into the Ginger Goose pub and began making a nuisance of himself on the evening of February 26 this year. Prosecutor Jessica Lister said eventually Leathem was refused service and asked to leave the pub, but he then pulled out a knife and pointed it at the male supervisor. Leathem demanded “a bottle”, but then made further demands for cash, and he was handed £60 from the till.

Recorder Mark McKone KC told 26-year-old Bakari Jobade that the disturbance in Leeds Old Road last August was the most serious offending he had to sentence him for.
