It was reported that the Town of Stevensville is going to raise rates by $83. However, Stevensville Mayor Bob Michalson has clarified that the current base rate for the average town resident for both water and sewer together is $83.44.

    by John Dowd Stevensville residents have been complaining about high water rates for several years and there will be no relief anytime soon. At the July 25 meeting of the Stevensville Town Council, the council discussed the upcoming water rate increase that will be discussed at a special town meeting to be held on August 6 at 6 p.m. According to Mayor Bob Michalson, they will need to raise the water rates, and pretty significantly.

    by John Dowd Passed by a single vote, residents of the town of Darby elected to conduct a local government review. This will be the first review held in any Bitterroot municipality for nearly 20 years. According to Regina Plettenberg, Clerk and Recorder as well as Election Administrator for Ravalli County, the last time Darby held one of these reviews the town made some big changes. It will be interesting to see what kinds of suggestions result from the review.

    by John DowdHeidi’s Kittens has had some big changes over the last year. Namely, the organization has been granted its own 501(c)3 nonprofit status. According to Heidi Schnarr, founder of the cat rescue, the rescue split from All Hearts Rescue in June of 2023. In September, they became their own stand-alone nonprofit. This change is most important because it will now allow them to receive direct donations to help them rescue, rehabilitate and rehome cats and kittens.
